A day in the life....

Most people want to know what goes on during the day in kindergarten. Well I thought I would do a little post and tell!

My kiddos arrive at school between 7:15-7:50. I go and pick up those who are here at 7:30, once we are in our room we begin morning work until everyone arrives. We have PE first, so we head straight out to PE at 8:00! After PE we begin our morning with calendar and math! My kids really love calendar time. We sing lots of songs and talk about numbers. I usually do a whole group math lesson after calendar time. During this second semester of kindergarten, we have grouped our kiddos based on reading levels and swap classes for reading. We stay in these groups for about 40 minutes each day! After we get back from our leveled reading groups, we finish up our math and begin our whole group reading. We go to brunch, I meant lunch, at 10:30! :) After lunch we continue in our reading block. After reading and center time we go to specials. My school system is so amazing! I am so thankful that my kiddos get to attend these specials each week. We go to one special each day at 12:00, our specials are: computer lab, music, art, library and counseling! After specials we have a time for recess! (On a side note, I read a very interesting article about one school who tripled their recess time and saw amazing results in their testing scores! Pretty interesting!) After recess we come back inside for science and social studies. After that we have a time of writers workshop, we really hit this hard the second semester of kindergarten! After writing we conclude our day with rest time.

We are hard at work all day!! I love teaching kindergarten. I love seeing the growth these kiddos make during the year!!

Happy Teaching!!!

Calendar Freebie!!

Since I teach kindergarten, I send home a conduct calendar every month. My students move clothespins. I like to put my classroom rules on my calendar and when a student breaks a rule or has to move their pin I can just write the number on the calendar so the parent knows what the student did. Since my classroom "theme" is monsters, this calendar has monsters in it! I LoVe monsters! If you teach older grades, I left the right side of each calendar opened so that you can write information about the month or monthly plans! Click on the link below!

Hope you enjoy!!!!
